​NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

Non-profit organizations, particularly those focusing on strengthening sectors or industries that are vital to the national economy, are typically well-funded and financed during their start-up phase which usually lasts 2-3 years. International donors whose strategic objectives can be achieved through the successful work of the organization are particularly receptive to awarding grants that aim at helping the organization in reaching self-sustainability. Numerous other local donors are also enticed to extend a helping hand, whether through financial or other means.

Regardless of the nature of the donors or their objectives, all share the purpose of helping the organization to the point where it is able to “stand on its own feet”, and which is accomplished by building and adopting a solid sustainability model. As such, unless the organization is able to clearly demonstrate that it will reach a healthy degree of self-sustainability, it will hardly find any donor who is willing to invest funds or other types of support into an organization that is likely to falter after the support program ends.

NGO's, regardless of their nature, exist primarily to serve the interests of a particular sector or group of constituents. In order to remain relevant and of interest to those, an NGO needs to continuously engage in programs of work (activities) that are deemed beneficial and relevant by their constituents. These activities must in turn be not only self-sustainable but also contribute toward the organization's overhead and administrative expenses.
